I picked Boy Meets World because as a kid I enjoyed watching the show because it tackled real-life problems that many shows don’t discuss. Many shows like to depict the world as jolly and full of sunshine’s, yet this is not reality. In Boy Meets World, the main character was Cory Matthews, however, in my opinion, I believe that Shawn Hunter was the real face of the show, experiencing the real hardships and challenges. This was the reason I wanted to write my essay based on his child abandonment syndrome and how it affected him throughout the show.

The process of this was hard because I constantly had writer’s block, I was unable to express my thoughts on paper completely. I wanted my readers to not only see the social issue of child neglect but also exhibit the greatness of the show and how the creators demonstrated it throughout the seven seasons. It was a while since I watched the show, so first I had to re-watch it through my Hulu account. I selected the episodes that displayed Shawn’s family issues. I countlessly re-watched the 4 episodes, trying to analyze it from a psychological viewpoint. Currently, I am taking psychology 102, and I enjoyed the class very much I decided to write my paper a topic I learned in the class. I used my psychology e-book to state many of my evidence and source. I discuss the different parenting styles and the result of child abandonment. Boy Meets World does a great job using Shawn to depict how the social issue negatively affects a child’s development.

After watching the episodes, I started throwing my ideas on paper, typing away my viewpoints. I felt like I had my main ideas; however, it was unorganized and unclear to my audience. I had several of my classmates review my work and received feedback that I needed always to refer back to my thesis. I also had grammatical errors and had trouble maintaining verb tense. However, through the help of Mr. Crohn, I was able to understand why I needed to keep my paper in the present verb tense. My overall thoughts on this assessment are it was challenging and was the most extended writing assignment I had to complete. I am proud of my work and believe I have improved because of the challenging and different writing assignments I was assigned this semester. I would have never thought I could have been able to write a critical analysis paper.
